Happy Spring from Roof Top Sedums! You don't need to read a newspaper to know we've been experiencing unseasonably warm weather - just step outside and you'll feel like it's early summer! This warm weather doesn't just get people in the mood for working on their yards; it gets the plants in the mood to grow. Most areas have landscapes that are growing several weeks ahead of schedule, and our plants are in perfect condition to start your green roof project. Our production is in full swing, so be sure to get your project on our calendar as soon as possible.

Along with the warmer weather comes the season to start maintaining your green roof. Be sure to read the LiveRoof® Biweekly Maintenance Protocol article to learn how to keep your green roof growing at its peak performance. The first yearly maintenance event for your roof is soil testing, as your plants may need a boost of fertilizer to keep optimum growth and performance. It's also time to resume biweekly "weed walks", because as much as LiveRoof® plants love the sun, so do the weeds. Read more about some helpful recommendations for your roof by clicking here for the attached articles.

Already planning your LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof? Then we have something to help make it even more easy! Installers can now take advantage of the LiveRoof® Overburden Removal Warranty option through LiveRoof LLC. Under the program, LiveRoof warrants the removal and repositioning of LiveRoof® modules if they must be taken up to assess and repair leaks in roof membranes. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the warranty article here so you have the most up-to-date information.

Roof Top Sedums has been busy! Be sure to check out the newest installations in our region. The first LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof of the season was installed at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa on March 20th. This is the third LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof at UNI. One of our LiveRoof® Certified Installers, Black Hawk Roofing, did an excellent job getting this project up and growing in its new home on the rooftop! Check out their work here:

On April 13th, Iowa State University followed suit, and a LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof System was installed at the Memorial Union. The unique design of sedums creates a red cyclone surrounded by colorful mixtures of yellows, greens, and blues. ISU senior, Miles Thompson worked with fellow students, the GSB, and the University to gather funding and make the project a reality. LiveRoof® Certified Installer, Central States Roofing, did a great job overseeing the project!

Warranty Covers the Costs of Removing and Replacing LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof Modules If Necessary to Assess and Repair Leaks in Roof Membranes

Being the owner of a green roof by Roof Top Sedums just got even better! LiveRoof LLC has announced a new overburden removal warranty program for the LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof System. Under the program, LiveRoof warrants the removal and repositioning of LiveRoof® modules if they must be taken up in order to assess and repair leaks in roof membranes. Subject to the conditions of the program, the warranty applies to any roof membrane from any membrane manufacturer. Building owners, architects, roof designers and contractors can specify, select and install LiveRoof® with the assurance that overburden removal is under warranty no matter which manufacturer's membrane is on the roof.

"Leak repairs are covered by membrane manufacturers' warranties. When a green roof is installed on top, the issue has been who covers the costs of removing and repositioning portions of the green roof to gain access to fix membrane leaks," said Dave MacKenzie, horticulturalist and president, LiveRoof, LLC. "Our overburden removal warranty resolves the issue for LiveRoof® green roof installations."

The warranty covers installations of the LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof System by LiveRoof Diamond Installers, including several that are located in the Roof Top Sedums region. The program applies to any brand
or type of waterproofing system, provided that the membrane has been inspected, tested (using a flood test or electronic leak detection), and certified as being watertight prior to the LiveRoof® installation.

"Being able to offer the LiveRoof® Overburden Removal Warranty sets LiveRoof® apart from other green roof systems and eliminates warranty limitations," said Teresa Nelson, ASLA, LEED AP BD+C, Roof Top Sedums LLC. "Our green roofs are already top-notch, so being able to offer this additional service through LiveRoof simply makes us the best." Since 2007, Roof Top Sedums has completed over 30 LiveRoof® projects in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, and they just keep growing!

The seedlings for Roof Top Sedums were planted in 2006, when co-owner Teresa Nelson collaborated on a green roof project with LiveRoof LLC in Michigan. This collaboration led Teresa and her sister, Roxanne Nagel, to fill a void in the growing green roof industry, and Roof Top Sedums LLC began providing custom grown green roof vegetation for LiveRoof® modules and custom grown green roof plugs from their family farm in Davenport, Iowa.
